You Should.

Why? Suppose, Every time a user have problem with their keyboard or
needs longer keyboard wire, finds a telephone wire and plugs in,
power up...

POW!

Dead keyboard controller IC in keyboard. No where to obtain but I
could be mistaken.

I think better off digging out that info on that programming and
recreate a new adapter using a PIC or easier to obtain
microcontroller IC.
