Oh wow! I remember when I would have given my right arm for a
"Cat". Two of my better off friends had them. I had a little
110 baud thing that I built from a kit purchased from an advertiser
in the back of a Kilobaud Micro. It was a piece of PC-board about
3x3 inches. Had three or four chips on it plus some caps and diodes.
Speaker and microphone simple hung from wires. I would use rubber
bands to attach them to the handset. The thing was horribly
temperature sensitive, as the temp increased the carrier would slowly
shift in frequency until the other end would drop the call. I would
have an ice cube in a zip-lock bag at hand to rub on the chips every
so often. Ah, those were the days.
