Yes, the problem is caused by the grounding spring, but the actual cause
seems to be the spot where the graphite connection is wearing down the
grounding spring. When I've run into that problem, I usually adjust the
grounding spring so the graphite touches on an unworn spot. IIRC, I've also
scraped away a small amount of the graphite to make sure it has a rounded
top.
