Second that notion. You must copy from disk to disk. The desktop is
merely a common waiting room for things (or preferably their alias) you
use most often.

Option key. Hold the option key and drag to copy from one disk or
partition to some other part of the same disk or partition. Two different
partitions even on the same physical disk act as if they are separate
disk drives.
