ebay suggestion: auto-extended time limit

Almost everyone agrees that if you bid your maximum, and you get outbid,
thems the way things fall and nothing lost. I don't understand how the end
time will affect the maximum bid anyone can make. Secondly, most
experienced bidders realize that to make a maximum bid early in the game
*invites* others to raise the price just to see if they can get it.
