An excellent idea. But then, I think I'm the one that told you about having
reverse-engineered the Philips CM-100 CD-ROM drive, specifically because
it was their very first model and used no custom chips (other than the
documented CD-audio decoder), and used an 8031 with an external EPROM
for firmware.
