Aside from _Last_Chance_to_See_, has Douglas Adams written anything
intended to be taken seriously? Maybe I missed something.

I need an Electric Monk. I think it's Adams' best invention [*]. Just the
thing for dealing with telemarketers. As long as the Electric Monk doesn't
have by Visa number.
