ISP mania -- can't change editor

I've tried editing my pinerc repeatedly, it always seems to be reset
the next time I log in. Since I only use that method to read mail
when I telnet to my ISP from work, I'm not going to worry about it
much longer, since my cablemodem installation is scheduled for Feb 6.
After that I should be able to telnet to my Linux system and use
whatever I want.
