   When sending anything by whatever shipping company, I *always*
remove and pack separately the cards from the backplane. This is
not to say they can't all go in the same box, but I have caused
severe damage to equipment and needless trauma to myself and others
by trying to 'cheap out' and put packing stuff in and around the
cards while still seated. Also, the bigger and less well supported
the cards are, the more of a mess you stand a chance of making.

  Most of the damage in my experience was card-edge and backplane
connector damage, from shocks at right angles to the plane of the
card, causing them to rip out of their guides and break off thier
connectors.
