  This is true...By "standalone" I meant "with no other computers". A NeXT
color station (turbo or otherwise) requires a sound box and a "Y cable" to run.
The Y cable connects to the base slab, the sound box, and the monitor. The
keyboard connects to the sound box (which is why it's required whether you want
sound or not).

  The going rate for NeXT sound boxes on eBay is about $20.
