Thanks to all who've responded with info. about these drives! The
strange thing is that www and dejanews searches used to turn up lots
of information like what I was seeking, but I couldn't find it last
night or today.

Now I can go back to trying to make the system bootable again, or at
least salvage some data from the drive with the boot partition on it,
which the system at least recognized and booted from before I messed
things up with running fsck manually, which I needed to to after
accidentally moving a "shoebox" with a running drive in it, which
wasn't fastened properly to the chasis due to an insufficient length
of cable. At the next hamfest, I'm buying lots of ribbon cable,
crimp-on connectors and things like that.
