Hi
What I've seem in the past is corrosion. It is usually
also related to the plating being cracked during assembly.
The two work against each other, the crack makes a
localized place that the mosture and any stray salts
or chemicals can hide and do its work. Having the pins
plated actually makes this problem worse because of the
differences in metals. The blackened leads are those that
have a high amount of silver in the plating. Normally,
these will work well be just reseating. They still have
the problem if the plating is fractured.
