There are at least two things going on:

1. Netpliance finding out that their system can be used in an unintended
way, and taking action to prevent it.

2. Netpliance forcing a draconian TOS agreement (opt-out charge of $500 if
the device isn't used within a certain amount of time, and some other
"goodies") on its users, even those who have ordered but not yet received
the device.

#1 I can understand. #2 just seems sleazy and wrong.
