Maybe sometimes that's part of the point, but probably not in this case.
Usually the point is more a matter of making the equipment manufacturer's
inventory management and production flow simpler. There may be a bunch
of parts from varioius vendors that are qualified to be used, but if they're
all stamped "1820-1701", that makes things easier. In cases where the chip
manufacturer's standard part number is not also marked, this may simply
be because it's harder for the vendor to put more markings on the chip; if
the customer only cares about the house marking, it doesn't really matter
whether the standard part number is present or not.
