They *really* weren't sold as prototype machines. One could say the PDP-1,
PDP-4 , PDP-6 and PDP-7 were "prototypes" as well then. This was Gordon's
first 16 bit release, he just redesigned some of it and re-numbered the
computer as a new PDP-11 line was starting in 1971.

I *did* have one of the original PDP-11 prototypes and it was quite a mess.
It did boot RT11 v4 though :-)
