Yes, I've been at Fry's on three occasions when that happened. On two
of the occasions, when I discovered the problem, I just set down my items
on the nearest flat horizontal surface and left. On the third occasion,
I *really* needed the item, so I had to wait.
On another occasion they had lost all power to the building, so even the
phone system didn't work. They were apparently worried about liability if
a customer managed to get injured in the dark, but they didn't want to
turn away business entirely. So if you knew what you wanted, they sent
you in with an "associate" who had a flashlight. That was definitely my
strangest shopping experience ever.
