Got my PDP-11/34! Now what?

I just found the manual for the DL-11W. I Found out all the communication
settings, and set up my terminal. I hooked them up with a null modem cable,
and nothing happened. The terminal remained blank, and the RUN light on the
front panel of the computer came on. Should I try the terminal with the
other M7856 card? I'm sorry I'm so dumb when it comes to DEC stuff.
