There's a nice view of a ~1960's Fax machine in the movie
"Bullitt". They put a photo on a drum, and drum is scanned
like an old edison cylinder phonograph (but optically). Spins
real fast, had a turbine whine as remembered.

First fax machine was over 100 years ago with synchronized
pendulums. Will scan <g> an old Scientific American if there's
interest.
