Proper front panels for LSI-11 PDPs?

I've thought about it, and the blinky part it easy but making it do more
than deposit memory bytes in non-PMI memory and start and stop the
processor is problematic. One of my wild ideas is to put a couple of
parallel ports in a VAX and have it emulate the front panel of a PDP-8
while software is emulating the machine. This is very feasible.
