The one's I have plug to the 50 connector narrow bus ribbon cable and output a
HVD 50 connector bus ribbon...

It takes a standard hard disk power cable for the voltage for the
driver chips.

Price was about $20/30 from a surplus house. I've seen them
anywhere from $20 or so up over $500 for the fancy external one.
