They're actually quite fun. The last two that I was in were the ones in
the desert in San Bernadino back in the early 90s. I was in Rancho
Cucamonga, which is about an hour west of the epicenter. I was sleeping
on my sister's couch after getting shit-faced at my cousin's wedding that
night. The first one hit at around 4am. It was a little nerve wracking.
When the second one came an hour later, I decided it would be a good time
to see if the ground moves like a wave as I'd heard from others, so I
layed on the floor and enjoyed the ride. Meanwhile my sister is screaming
for everyone to get under a door. She's always been jumpy in earthquakes
:)

Now that I'm a home owner living within 20 miles of a major fault, I don't
have such a cavalier attitude anymore, especially since earthquake
insurance in California is a funny joke (i.e. even if you could afford it,
it's better to forgo it and take your chances).
