I'm really not familar with PERQ, but couldn't one emulate the microcode in
a more modern machine and actually have it run faster?

Agreed. The point that the orginal poster stated was based upon a replica
having the same functionality as the original, "so why bother with the original?"
I'm more inclined with what you are saying. That despite "functionality" a replica

lacks at least one desirable aspect that the original has, so if I want "IT", I
want
the original and not the replica.
