Comodore 64 / 1541 commands ???

Hey I just got a Commodore and a 1541 floppy drive

I know

load "$",8

loads a catalog of what's on the disk and

load "name",8

will load something from the floppy

and I assume

save "name",8

will save it

But how do I format the disk and prepare it for use?
