P.S. - I agree... solder sucker rather than solder wick and sacrifice
the part to save the board. It's especially important with boards
with ground and power planes - it takes a lot more effort to remove
the power and ground pins there... I tend to float them out rather
than pull the solder out and bare the pin as I do with signal pins.
P.P.S - I also like to cut the lead as close to the body of the chip
so I can use the right-angle bend at the top of the leg for traction.
This obviously doesn't work for side-brazed parts, but those are
frequently socketed to begin with.
