I once, many many moons ago, because I could not afford an ASR33, converted a
Singer model 70 workstation (giant 132 column typebar printer) to a async
serial terminal (by removing the mutidrop line card and replacing it with a
wirewrapped card with a UART and some FIFOs) The noise that printer made still
echos in my head..
