It was used for BBS pages, to be able to display actual graphics on the
pages rather than the old ASCII/ANSI pages, but the calling side needed
their terminal program to decipher it. Searchlight was the first, AFAIK, to
have RIPscript in it. Telegraphix now holds Proboard, Searchlight and
RIPScript.
