Radio Shack and Schematics

While there's been much criticism of Radio Shack lately, let's
remember that it was one of the few companies that provided schematics
with all of the electronics equipment that it sold, typically as part
of the owners manual, long after most other companies had ceased to
provide them.

Granted, many of the Radio Shack employees don't know a capacitor from
a transformer, and if you ask them if they sell a 10 mH choke, they'll
probably tell you to visit an auto-supply store. However, quite a few
of us here most likely got our childhood start in electronics from
Radio Shack. Remember the P-box kits, the soldering-iron sets and
100-in-one kits that we got as young children? Alas, in this day of
overprotective parents, looney legislators and those mandatory and
ridiculous bicycle helmets, car safety seats, lead paint laws, etc., I
doubt that many young children these days will receive a soldering
iron and 60/40 lead solder from Santa Claus to build kits and other
electronic circuits with.
