Packing is easy if your willing to spend the money
($10 to $20), for 50 and under pounds,

1) Buy two standard 200# test cardboard boxes, one 2-4
inches larger then the item in all directions, the
other 2-4 inches larger then the first, again in all
directions.
2)Wrap the item in large bubble wrap 3 to 4 times
around item, insert into first box, tape.
3) Wrap the box in large bubble wrap 3 to 4 times,
insert into second box, tape.

Done. Getting the right size boxes is key as it allows
you to minimize the use of bubble wrap and doesn't
require any messy foam peanuts to fill empty spaces.
New boxes are much stronger then used and tape sticks
to them much better (you need less tape and bubble
wrap with a new box).
