  <kernel-image> single [enter]
(or, if you are using RedHat and such)
  <kernel-image> init=/bin/sh [enter]

# mount -w -n -o remount /
# passwd
# mount -r -n -o remount /
# exit

No computer is truly secure if someone has physical access to it.
