Often they go to intermediate stations. Depends on the firm. They can get
in trouble for trying to dump hazmats, so they do actually watch what comes
out of the back of the truck.

Of course, in most major cities, there is an army of guys that wander the
alleys and pull out the scrap metal, computers, and good flea market
junk, before the garbage man even gets to it. In Chicago and suburbs,
where I grew up, these guys have overloaded pickups filled to the brim
with junk the take to the metal dealers.
