I think the BIG difference between "mechs" of today
vs. yesterday, be it in printers, VCR's, floppies,
etc, is cast aluminum vs. sheet metal. Things started
to go to hell when cast machined aluminum was replaced
by it. My first VCR had a massive cast aluminum
platform. My first floppy drives, same. Diablo
printers. You could drop all of those things out of an
airplane and they'd stil be within tolerances.
Alright, that's a stretch...but, its true.
