  In the experimentation I and my friends have done, that's an
unqualified "maybe." It depends a lot on the relative drive geometries.
If the geometry matches, you should be good to go. I think it also
depends on whether you dd at the filesystem level or the raw device
level.
  It works wonderfully on floppy disks and on CD-ROMs, and apparently
works fitfully on hard drives.
