Hardware does exist - just you can't afford it (and it's
probably not going to be available on the hobbyist
market for a little while yet). Even the optics are
hellishly expensive!

Well it's certainly run to capacity in the
test labs. Exactly what customers fo with
them is up to them!
100MB to the desktop seems to work well
enough for me. Especially since the link out
of the building is just a T1 ...
