I've always thought the classic computer collector community
needed a tool and meta-format like this for every format of
media (floppies, tapes, MO, Zip/Jaz, hard disks, CDs, etc.).

I think there's tremendous value in an automated tool that would
"sniff" a tape without necessarily copying all the files to disk.
