Well, while I agree with some of the things you've put forth, I have to
disagree here. It's true many people will, indeed take whatever you tell them
is what they need, that doesn't apply to the Windows OS. It's that they were
told it was what they WANT that sold Windows. That was Win3.0, 3.1, NT, 95,
98, ME, 2k, ... etc. Since it didn't turn out to be true, I can't understand
why people buy the next defective version of the previously defective product.
The complain, but they put the $$$ on the counter anyway. They don't even try
to get the best price. They're down there at the store three hours before it
opens on the days the "NEW" release comes out, and they're salivating when the
doors open, even though they have to wait hours to get in the door.

The MAC, for example, sold a lot of units based on the notion that it was
"what they want" but that turned out to be untrue, probably for cost reasons.
Win3.x was out there head to head with the MAC for years before MS had their
virtual monopoly, and more and more of the market share went to the Windows
version du-jour. If it were so bad, would people really buy it if something
better, or even close to equal were offered anywhere?
