Mike, I've been trying to solve this problem for at least a couple years.
This list has slowly degraded into what we have today. Every attempt I
made to get people to stop posting off-topic drivel has been resisted and
in some cases scorned. It seems some people are only interested in
preserving a forum where they can spout their mediocre and pointless views
about issues having nothing to do with the very reason they joined up here
in the first place. Too many hormones, not enough self control.

I have warned in the past that it would lead to this, but finally gave up
as it seems the majority of people here simply don't care. A lot of folks
who had a lot to contribute here have left because of this problem. I
really don't care anymore myself as it's like trying to take the stink out
of shit. Not enough people are willing to take a stand against the
off-topic postings. Apathy reigns.

I think if this continues on a trend of less and less relevant discussion,
the possibility of creating a new list that bans off-topic postings and
successfully supplants ClassicCmp becomes likelier.

I will join that list and unsubscribe from this one.
