Since the tape based terminals of that era did
not rely on the tape for an os (it was ROMmed),
perhaps the *F series also has control of the
drives using only ROMware.

The way I remember it working is that a combination
of Top Key presses would result in commandlines like so:
  COPY DISPLAY to PRINTER
  COPY LTAPE to RTAPE
  COPY DISPLAY to RTAPE
That sort of thing.
To try before you give up.
