As far as I recollect it was the same scheme as the apple graphics. IBM
software worked ok as long as it wasn't made as direct hardware addressing
of the IBM video. The "upgrade" video card with RAM add-on gave the MBC-5xx
sereis actual hardware CGA for a mere $275 (what a deal huh, and that was
with bare DRAM sockets)
