Is there such a thing as a ZIF socket for PLCC chips?

Yes, they exist. Flip a latch and the top opens, and you drop the chip in
- true ZIF. I grabbed a bunch one day back when I worked at USR (back
when they used to let people take home surplus), but I have no idea where
they went. If I find them, I will let you know.

You do not want to have to buy one of these things - they are NOT cheap!
