There was the "Landmark Speed Test" which gave stupid results on anything
faster than a 486 (IIRC).
There's also American Megatrends's AMIDIAG diagnostic kit - a few old
versions were given away on the cover of "PC Plus" magazine.
Finally, there's Whetstone and Dhrystone - leave them going for a good half
hour, then check the results.
