It was pretty good. A bit weak on addressing modes. The 6502
had better addressing modes (especially the indirected indexed by Y
mode), but was somewhat hamstrung by the single accumulator and only
256 bytes of stack.

Once the 6809 was introduced, the question of best instruction set for
an 8-bit microprocessor was definitively answered. (At least until the
Hitachi 63C09, which is a CMOS 6809 with various improvements and
extensions.)
