        Actually, LANTronix makes exactly what you describe, and it can be programmed as either a print server or a telnet-to-RS232 device. I'm using one in my LAN right now.

        Gad, you're reading my mind. That's exactly what I use mine for. It ties into a code-operated 16-port switch. I simply telnet to the device, enter the code for the port I want to connect to, and viola! Instant console hardline.

        What you want is the LANTronix MSS-1 or MSS-100. Either one will do the trick, and they're remarkably easy to configure. I've seen them turn up on E-pay quite often.
