Shipping a Teletype

YES!!! The 'typing unit' -- the main chassis carrying the motor, printer
mechanism, platten and punch -- is not fastened down. It rests on rubber
pads. If it comes loose in shipping (and it will), it will damage itself,
the keyboard, and the top cover (at least!).

There is a hole under the base pan which lines up with one in the typing
unit chassis casting. You put a self-tapping screw in there to hold the
typing unit in place for shipping. According to the manual, you're
supposed to clip this screw to the typing unit when you install the
machine, so you have it available for future shipping. I have _never_
found this has been done, though. So you'll have to get a suitable screw
from a hardware shop or something.
