As I recall Dr. Clarks "geometry engine" was early '80s. I remember
watching VTI video tapes in 1983/4 where he talked about the graphics
pipeline. That chip went into the first SGI workstations (which were,
as I recall 68000 based, probably 68010 or 68020) and powers the "flight
simulator".

I believe there were multiple versions of the simulator, with the later
ones allowing two machine to connect over ethernet and dogfight.
