Schematics and boards, respectively. Yes, they seem to be Eagle proprietary
formats, and I have never tried to look inside them. (I just export Gerber
files, netlists, and whatnot, and look at those :-).)

The scripting language that comes with Eagle also largely removes the need
to look at the low level file details.
