Can we drop this unbelievably neanderthal "politics" discussion?

I'm increasingly embarrassed to be American. Not simply because
of any particular idea, view, or action (though there's enough
of those), but because the level of discourse is mean, mainly ad
hominem and mostly stupid and agressively uninformed. It sounds
like an argument over who's "cooler", in a high-school cafeteria.
