You are missing the big picture of how this all works. Them insisting you
use their smtp server (for outbound) is a perfectly sane and reasonable
thing. And what do you mean "this actually happened in new york"? What you
describe is the way it HAS been at probably more than 90% of ISP's for the
past 5+ years.
