C source code to extract CP/M ARK archives?

Well when last I looked the PDF spec was published as
a PDF :-)

Lots of stuff gets stored in the archive-format-du-jour
(like .ZIP or .RAR today). The assumption is (I guess)
that the format is so widely diffused that it is impossible
to imagine that people would not know about it just a few
(hundred) years down the line.

Is ASCII much better? How does it compare to puched cards?
