Firmware limitation as I understand it from the manual.

"The firmware shipped with the CFFA card doesn t currently support
drives set to Slave . If you set your drive to Slave you may be able
to leave it connected while you are using a CF card, but you will not be
able to access the drive until you set the drive back to Master and
remove the CF card."
