Personally, I'd not want to accept this (for all it is the standard legal
remedy). I've not seen the unit, and I don't know what you paid for it,
but if, as others have commented, the PCBs are undamaged, it can probably
got working again, and surely the parts are worth having.

Can the broken mechanical parts not be repaired? Possibly by suing metal
rod, drilled and tapped at the ends and bolted to the right places in the
case> OK, it's not original, and there'd be extra screws on the outside,
but it shoud work.
